Network outage

Hi,

For an unknown reason, the fiber link between the core switch and ours jumped down, a small shut/noshut fixed the problem. (Those with network knowledge will understand, for the others this is technically the same as remotely unplugging and plugging a cable).

By the way, we are still having storage issues, heavy checks on the storage arrays ended successfully. We are now a bit suspecting the storage server itself, something around memory, motherboard or CPU. Sorry about short downtimes from time to time to switch between the storage arrays, to run quick checks offline and such things.

We must be cursed :-(

PHP and cgi.fix_pathinfo value

Hi,

The upgrade from Debian Etch to Debian Lenny changed the value of the cgi.fix_pathinfo variable, we are using the default value and the default value changed from 0 to 1.

From what we saw, the only impacted value seems to be PHP_SELF, but the PHP documentation talks about PATH_INFO, PATH_TRANSLATED and SCRIPT_FILENAME

We think this is better to let the new default behavior, which is fixing an old PHP bug. Anyway this is something that need to be changed at some time, therefore this is useless to set the previous default behavior back.

Please fix your scripts ;-)

Webservers upgraded to Debian Lenny

All our webservers have been migrated to Debian Lenny yesterday in the evening.

If anything is not working as it should, we will enjoy the feedback.

Storage maintenance planned

This night, we are going to fix in deep the problem which is responsible of this outage, which probably comes from that, that, and that.

We will need to shutdown almost all services during a few hours in order to complete this maintenance.

Loi HADOPI : TuxFamily montre l'exemple

Alors que l'adoption du projet de loi HADOPI suit son cours, nous avons décidé d'aller de l'avant. Ainsi, TuxFamily s'est proposé comme hébergeur pilote pour tester l'application et la mise en place des concepts HADOPI, à commencer par le filtrage de tout contenu suspect par rapport à tout ayant-droit potentiel.

Le gouvernement a approuvé notre initiative et a décidé de nous encourager en hébergeant chez nous leur projet VAlbanel.

VAlbanel, pour Virtual Albanel, est un programme permettant de détecter et supprimer tout contenu illicite aux yeux de Mme Christine Albanel, fer de lance de ce merveilleux projet. Actuellement en cours de recette, ce traitement sera prochainement appliqué aux répertoires de téléchargements et aux espaces web de tous nos hébergés.

Toujours dans l'esprit du libre, nullement incompatible avec HADOPI, vous pourrez consulter les sources de VAlbanel. Il s'agit d'une archive .tar.gz récupérée chez le développeur après que les premières exécutions de VAlbanel aient supprimé les sources d'origine.

Quoiqu'il en soit, nous vous invitons fortement à télécharger VAlbanel et à l'essayer sur votre ordinateur.

Enfin, pour éviter l'ajout de contenus illicites qui risqueraient d'échapper à la vigilance de VAlbanel, nous allons modifier notre FAQ sur certains points. Ainsi, nous inviterons désormais nos artistes hébergés à contacter la SACEM pour gérer leurs œuvres plutôt que de s'en remettre à une licence libre.

Surveillez bien vos fichiers prochainement afin de voir si vous n'aviez pas des fichiers frauduleux.
